Lee Chapel 1863 Whites directory

LEE CHAPEL, 4½ miles S. by E. of Billericay, is a small extra-parochial liberty, on the east side of Laindon Hills. It has only about 10 inhabitants, 360 acres of land, and one farm-house; but had anciently a chapel, the foundations of which are still visible.
It was called East Lea Chapel, and had a chantry, endowed with lands, held of the King, as of the manor of East Greenwich, by fealty only, in free socage. The liberty was held by Sir Brian Tuke in 1540, and by the Petre family in the 17th century, but it now belongs to C. Bailey, Esq. , M.P., and is occupied by Fdk. Parsons, Esq.
