Little Burstead or Burghstead, is a parish in the Southern division of the county, Barstable hundred, near the source of the River Crouch, 2 miles south west from Billericay, and 5 east from Brentwood station.
The church of St Mary is small, with a nave and chancel, and low spire, with 2 bells.
The register dates from the year 1678.
The living is a rectory, yearly value £356, with residence and 34 acres of glebe, in the gift of the Bishop of Rochester, and held by the Rev William Brown Dalton, MA, of Pembroke College, Cambridge.
