STAMBRIDGE ( LITTLE) is a small village and parish, 1 mile N.N.E. of Rochford, containing only 126 souls and 780 acres of land, and having a large brewery. James Tabor, Esq. , is lord of the manor, which was anciently appropriated to the monks of Holy Trinity, in Canterbury, and was afterwards held by the Fitzgilbert, Fitzjohn,
Tibetot, Wentworth, Wellesley, and other families. The Church is a small a antique fabric, with a nave and chancel of one pace, and the arms of Bohun in the belfry window. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £12, and in 1831 at £183, is in the patronage of the Lord Chancellor, and incumbency of the Rev. Nathaniel Meeres, B.D.
Opposite the Old Ship Inn, in Rochford, are three cottages, belonging to the foor of this parish, and now let for £11. 12s., which is carried to the poor rates.
