SHOEBURY , ( NORTH) is a small pleasant village, about a mile from the sea shore, and the mouth of the Thames, and 4 miles S.E. by E. of Rochford, has in its parish 202 souls and 1086 acres of land, extending to the beach. It is in two manors, viz. , North Shoebury Hall, of which Robert Bristow, Esq. , is lord, and Kents, belonging to G. Welch and the Executors. of Mrs. Jones.
The Church (St. Mary, ) is an ancient structure, and was appropriated to Prittlewell Priory, from 1423, till the dissolution. The living is a discharged vicarage, valued in K.B. at £9 , and in 1831 at £182 , and was augmented with £200 of Queen Anne’s Bounty, and £200 given by Bishop Robinson, in 1719. It is in the patronage of the Lord Chancellor, and incumbency of the Rev. J. E. Commins, M.A., who has a good residence.
