Stock, (or Stock Harvard) is a parish and pleasant village on the summit of a range of hills on the road from Chelmsford to Billericay, 3 miles south east from Ingatestone station on the main line of the Great Eastern railway and 3 north from Billericay on the branch line of that company from Shenfield to Maldon, Southminster and Southend, 6 south west from Chelmsford and 27 from London.
A stream which rises near Brick House flows through the parish.
The church of All Saints is an ancient building of stone in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave of four bays, north aisle, south porch and a western tower of wood, with shingled spire, containg 3 bells: the church underwent extensive repairs in the years 1847-8; the interior was entirely reseated and the chancel rebuilt; an organ chamber was added at the east end of the north aisle: there are 250 sittings.
The register dates from the year 1563. The living is a rectory, with that of Ramsden Bellhouse annexed, with 38 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of H Allen Esquire and held since 1914 by the Rev Frederick William Austen MA, of Trinity College, Cambridge.

The Catholic church, dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and licensed for marriages, is situated in the grounds of Lilystone Hall, and was once a private chapel attached to the house, but is now used by the public; Adjoining the school is a small cemetery. Here is a Congregational chapel. There are four almshouses founded by Richard Tredye esq of Boreham, for four poor knights , two for this parish and two for the parish of Boreham; but now occupied by poor persons.
Lilystone Hall, the residence of William Dunn esq. Greenwoods is the residence of Richard Adam Ellis esq JP.
The trustees of Joseph, Lord Petre, who is a minor, are lords of the manor.
The soil is light; subsoil white sand and gravel : near Galley Wood, on the verge of the parish, a still loam prevails, formerly called by the inhabitants brick and pot earth: stock bricks derive their name from this place. The area is 2,724 acres, and the population in 1911 was 587, in the civil parish, and 1,995 in the ecclesiastical parish, which includes part of Ramsden Bellhouse.
