OVINGTON, a small village and parish, on the south side of the Stour Valley, two miles S.W. of Clare, has only 152 souls, and about 700 acres of land. Messrs. Homfray and Spackman are lords of the manor in right of their wives, but part of the parish belongs to the Earl of Mornington and a few smaller owners.
The Church is a small antique fabric, with a wooden tower and spire, standing on high ground, commanding fine views. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £7, and in 1831 at £469, with that of Tilbury-juxta-Clare, and the curacy of Allbrights annexed to it, is in the patronage and incumbency ofthe Rev. C. J. Fisher, M.A., who has a large residence here, and about 60 acres of glebe, in the three parishes. Belchamp St. Ethelbert, now commonly called ALL- BRIGHTS, is a small chapelry in Otten Belchamp, but has belonged ecclesiastically to this parish since the year 1473, about which time its chapel went to decay. In lieu of tithes in this chapelry, and his two united parishes, the rector has £556 per annum. Post from Clare.
