WENDENS-AMBO is a village and parish near Audley-End Station, 2 miles S.W. of Saffron-Walden. It contains 419 inhabitants, and 1416 acres of land, formerly in two parishes called Great and Little Wenden, which were consolidated by Bishop Sheldon, in 1662, at the request of the inhabitants, and with the consent of the Earl of Suffolk, under the name of Wendens-Ambo, i.e. Both Wendens. Lord Braybrooke is lord of the manor of Great Wenden, which was held by R. Gernon at Domesday Survey. The Marquis of Bristol is lord of the manor of Little Wenden, which was held by William de Warren at the Survey. Mr. S.
