Ballingdon 1863 Whites directory
BALLINGDON-CUM-BRUNDON has been annexed by the Reform Acts of 1832 and 1835 to the Borough of Sudbury, in Suffolk, from which it is separated onlybythe river Stour. It contains 813 acres and 861 inhabitants, and was formerly a separate parish; but its ancient church, which stood at Brundon, about a mile from Ballingdon street, went to decay many years ago, and no traces of it are now extant.
The inhabitants use All Saints Church, in Sudbury, and contribute towards its reparation; and the incumbent has a yearly stipend of £13. 6s. 8d. from the impropriators of the tithes. In 1719, John Littell gave a house in St. Gregory’s parish, Sudbury, in trust, to apply the rent in educating six poor children of Ballingdon-cum-Brundon, and All Saints parish, in Sudbury. The poor of Ballingdon and Sudbury have £4 a year from Sudbury Corporation, as interest of benefactions left by George Crow and Joseph Hunwick.
