MIDDLETON, a small village and parish, in the Stour Valley, one mile S. of Sudbury, has only 138 souls and 895 acres of land. Geo. St. Vincent Burke, Esq., is lord of the manor, but part of the soil belongs to the Rector and the Sykes, Cook, and Barnardiston families. The Church is a small structure of great antiquity, with an ornamental Saxon doorway, and a small spire. The organ and a fine old painting of the Angel appearing to the Virgin, were given by the Rev. Oliver Raymond, LL.B., the patron and incumbent of the rectory, valued in K.B. at £8, and now having 454. of glebe, and £400 a year in lieu of tithes. The rector has a good residence and a fine collection of paintings. There are no farmers resident in this small parish.
